THE WORK

In this creation, the artist from Lazio portrays the Holy Virgin in a position typical of Christian iconography, that of the "Madonna of Humility" who is often represented with her arms crossed on her chest: in this regard we remember the homonymous work by Beato Angelico executed in 1430 and preserved at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. In the canvas “Madonna of Gucci 3.0”, Paolo Pilotti transforms Mary of Nazareth into a Gucci model posing for a photo shoot: the red lipstick stands out on the pale skin of the Virgin who wears large teardrop glasses with colored lenses transparent green, around her neck she wears a large gold chain which has five letters as pendants that form the writing "Gucci", her hands folded at her chest have her fingers covered in nail polish matching her lipstick, on the ring finger of her right hand she wears a flower-shaped ring actually produced by Gucci, on the wrist he wears a gold bracelet with a bee-shaped pendant. The beige veil that covers her head recalls the collaboration that took place in 2020 between Gucci and Disney. In the background we see the symbols of the Gucci brand shining in green. This artistic creation is full of details executed with extreme meticulousness by the artist born in 1982. The top models are admired and venerated as "Goddesses" and Paolo Pilotti, with grace and irony, replaces the modern divinities with a holy figure of the Christian tradition underlining with the sacred character that advertising has taken on, defining what is beautiful and desirable for society, is a hyperbole.
