Most Illustrious Alessandro Mendini is part of the collection of masters of design by Elena Salmistraro for BosaMost Illustrious is a tribute and a thank you to the masters of Italian design, a collection of three-dimensional figures made by Bosa in ceramic, finely decorated with colored glazes.
Totemic objects that add characterizing features of designers and works that have made them known in the world, to underline the unique relationship that arises between the designer and his projects: “we are what we create”.
The Most Illustrious Collection of the design masters of Elena Salmistraro for Bosa begins with: Achille Castiglioni, for whom the centenary of his birth was celebrated in 2018, and continues with Riccardo Dalisi, Michele De Lucchi and Alessandro Mendini.

Dimension: 13 x 9,5 x h 29 cm

“Most Illustrious. It is a gift to those people that, maybe unknowingly, have given so much to my perception of design. Their commitment and their works have modelled and educated my vision and my taste; as truthful masters, they had no need to introduce themselves, to speak or to tell their ideas to stand out; the energy of their creations was sufficient to make me understand who they really were and what was their vision, proving that all designers are what they create, in the end. I had fun mixing colours, stacking objects and shapes to create a sort of tribute that, with great humility, shows my way of seeing them.” Elena Salmistrato.

Alessandro Mendini

Architect, designer and artist, Alessandro Mendini was born in Milan in 1931.
In the seventies Mendini took part in most of the radical design experiences that see the light during this period. In 1973 he was one of the founders of Global Tools, a group that is part of the controdesign and strongly opposes tradition. In 1979 he joined the Studio Alchimia, which aims to create objects with references to popular culture and kitsch, outside of industrial production and their functionality.
In 1989 he opened the Atelier Mendini in Milan with his brother Francesco. He creates objects, furniture, environments, paintings, installations and architecture. He collaborates with international companies such as Magis, Alessi, Philips, Cartier, Bisazza, Swatch, Hermès, Venini and is a consultant for various industries, also in the Far East, for the setting of their image and design problems.
He was a professor of design at the Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna and is an honorary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Academy of China in China. He has organized several exhibitions and seminars in Italy and abroad and his works can be found in various museums around the world.
With Atelier Mendini has worked in several countries planning, among other things, the Alessi factories in Omegna, the new Olympic swimming pool in Trieste, a tower in Hiroshima in Japan; the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands and other buildings in Europe and the United States. In Korea, Atelier Mendini designed the headquarters of the Milan Triennale in Incheon, and in Seoul he developed various works of architecture, interiors and design.
In 2014 he was awarded his third Compasso d'Oro, to the Career, the European Prize for Architecture 2014 in Chicago and the Laurea Honoris Causa from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw in Poland.
