Loricato Container designed by Elena Salmistraro for Bosa is an armadillo shaped container in ceramic enriched with precious metals, with a symbolic meaning that lies in its shell, which now finds its way into our homes in the form of a container guarding our rarest belongings.

Dimension: 25 x 31 x H 40 cm

A project full of symbols and meanings in which the object goes beyond its function. Loricato & Khepri are the collection designed by Elena Salmistraro for Bosa Ceramiche. Two characters that take on a symbolic value, taken from the culture and traditions.

Khepri, that is the animal scarab symbol of eternal rebirth for the ancient Egyptians, which moves forward in the name of the sun dragging the sphere of dung that ideally turns into a new life. The beetle is the symbol of man’s continuous evolution, through reincarnation.

Loricato, “armed with lorica” that is equipped with armor. Like the armadillo, the nocturnal animal that responds to adversity by defending itself bravely thanks precisely to its shell. Native Americans considered him a unique animal, a kind of light that inspires and guides us, able to reassure and bring comfort to the soul, overcome hostility and fear.

Loricato & Khepri, armadillo and scarabeo, were designed by the designer for ANIMAlità, the exhibition organized in 2015, at the Milan Triennale curated by Silvana Annicchiarico.

The two projects were exhibited together with unpublished works by Sam Baron, Matteo Cibic, GamFratesi, Jaime Hayon, Sebastian Herkner, Lanzavecchia + Wai, Minale-Maeda, Jonna Vautrin and Nika Zupanc. The designers have been invited to create for the occasion a collection of ceramic objects with apotropaic, symbolic, playful and intimate features whose theme is precisely that of animality.
