Most Illustrious Achille Castiglioni opens the collection of the masters of design by Elena Salmistraro for Bosa.Most Illustrious is a tribute and a thank you to the masters of Italian design, a collection of three-dimensional figures made by Bosa in ceramic, finely decorated with colored glazes.
Totemic objects that add characterizing features of designers and works that have made them known in the world, to underline the unique relationship that arises between the designer and his projects: "we are what we create".
The Most Illustrious Collection of the design masters of Elena Salmistraro for Bosa begins with: Achille Castiglioni, for whom the centenary of his birth was celebrated in 2018, and continues with Riccardo Dalisi, Michele De Lucchi and Alessandro Mendini.

Their commitment and their works have modelled and educated my vision and my taste; as truthful masters, they had no need to introduce themselves, to speak or to tell their ideas to stand out; the energy of their creations was sufficient to make me understand who they really were and what was their vision, proving that all designers are what they create, in the end. I had fun mixing colours, stacking objects and shapes to create a sort of tribute that, with great humility, shows my way of seeing them."Elena Salmistrato. 

Achille Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni was born in Milan on February 16, 1918. He studied Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic and graduated in 1944. His father Giannino is a sculptor and his older brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo have an architecture firm in Piazza Castello in Milan. Already in 1940 Achille Castiglioni worked at the studio helping his brothers, then from 1944 he devoted himself with them in a stable manner to urban planning, architecture, exhibitions, exhibitions and product design. The study turns its attention to experimentation on the industrial product, carrying out research activities on new forms, techniques and materials: the final objective is the realization of an integral design process. In 1944, Achille Castiglioni and his brothers took part in the 7th Triennale di Milano where he presented the IRR126, a radio device conceived for industrial production.
In the years 1952-1953 deals with the post-war reconstruction of the Palazzo Della Permanente in Milan. In 1956 he was one of the founders of ADI, the Industrial Design Association.

There are numerous awards received in recent years: between 1955 and 1979 he won seven Compasso d'Oro awards;
at the Triennale he won numerous prizes: in 1947 a Bronze Medal, in 1951 and in 1954 a Grand Prix, in 1957 a Silver Medal and a Gold Medal, in 1960 a Gold Medal and in 1963 another Medal silver.
In 1969 Castiglioni obtained the Free Teaching in "Artistic Design for Industry" at the Ministry of Education: he held the chair of professor of "Industrial Design" at the Faculty of Architecture of Turin until 1980 and then in Milan until 1993.
Castiglioni's works includes the Mezzadro chair, the Sella chair (1957), the Sanluca armchair (1959), the Tubino desk lamp (1951), the Luminator floor lamp (1955), the Arco floor lamp (1962) produced by Flos, the Taccia table lamp (1962), the Allunaggio seat (1962), the Toio floor lamp.
Fourteen of his principal works are present at the MoMA in New York; The MoMA (Museum of Modern Art), with the works of Achille Castiglioni, has created in Manhattan the largest retrospective ever dedicated to an Italian designer.
In addition to the American museum other important galleries exhibit his works including: the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Kunstgewerbe Museum in Zurich, the Staatliches Museum fur Angewandte Kunst in Munich, the Museum of Design in Prato, the Uneleckoprumyslove in Prague, l 'Israel Museum in Jerusalem, The Denver Art Museum, Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Angewandte Kunst Museum in Hamburg and Cologne.
Among the companies that benefited from the work of Achille Castiglioni (also paired with his brother Pier Giacomo) for their serial productions are: Alessi, Zanotta, Ideal Standard, Kartell, Lancia, Flos, Siemens, Bernini, Knoll, Poggi , Italtel, Longoni, Nagano, Omsa, Phonola, Teorema and Arflex.
Achille Castiglioni died on December 2, 2002, at the age of 84, following a fall in his studio in Milan. His body rests in the abbey of Chiaravalle.
