MR. SAVETHEWALL

Pierpaolo Perretta, aka Mr. Savethewall, is an Italian artist originally from Como.

Mr. Savethewall didn't start out as an artist right away. In fact, he began his career in a world very different from the artistic one, in which he too became an important manager.

Over time, however, he begins to feel the need to change, to finally put his great creativity and talent to good use.

Moved by his great passion for art and, in particular, for street art, he decides to devote himself full time to this new activity.

In fact, in 2013 he gave up a secure and well-paid job to express his vision of the world and society through art.

Mr. Savethewall immediately proves to be a different street artist than usual.

In fact, he declares himself opposed to the dirt of the walls and, for this reason, decides not to create his murals directly on the walls, but to use an easily removable adhesive tape.

He also uses recyclable materials with a low environmental impact, such as cardboard.

Hence his stage name which, literally, means Mr. Save the Wall, fully declaring his will to protect street furniture.

MR. SAVETHWALL WORKS: AN IRONIC INTERPRETATION OF SOCIETY

In a short time Mr. Savethewall proves to be an artist of great caliber and, above all, multifaceted.

It is no coincidence, in fact, that he is gaining more and more footing in the art scene, assuming an increasingly important position in the art market.

In his works by him Mr. Savethewall makes use of languages coming from street art and communication, as well as from the latest trends in contemporary art, recalling in his works famous artists to whom he looks with admiration: first of all Banksy and Damien Hirst .

In the works of Mr. Savethewall we can clearly perceive an interpretation of today's society in an ironic and critical key.

His works, in fact, present strong, direct and targeted messages.

The goal of the artist Mr. Savethewall is not only to communicate his personal vision of society to his audience, but it is also to convey messages that are as clear as they are provocative able to push the viewer to a personal reflection on the world that surrounds and its contradictions.

Hence the use of famous and immediately recognizable images and subjects, to which he also adds texts.

By doing so, he not only manages to make the message even easier to grasp, but leaves no room for any misinterpretations.

WORKS MR. SAVETHWALL: THE CONCEPT OF DÉTOURNEMENT

The practice of so-called conceptual detournement has been known in the art world since the time of the Dadaists.

This term means the resumption, by an artist, of an already existing image or work, of which it distorts its original meaning and gives a new and often opposite one.

This practice was assimilated and internalized by Mr. Savethewall who makes use of it in his works.

To express the light but effective irony towards contemporary society, the artist draws inspiration from personalities from the world of culture, cinema and art history who are re-proposed in a completely different light that deviates from the original purpose of these subjects. and their meaning or function.

The works of Mr. Savethewall do not fail to also recall the religious and political sphere. Regardless of the medium chosen, therefore, his works all present strong, direct and targeted messages.

THE ICONIC SUBJECT: THE FROG MR. SAVE THE WALL

Famous all over the world is the representation made by Mr. Savethewall of the contemporary man, well dressed and elegant, who however has the appearance of a Frog.

The artist's goal is to warn about the falsity of the famous tale of the Princess and the Frog: the frog, even if it turns into a prince, is still a frog.

The true moral of the story is therefore that, as the artist himself states, "a frog, even if well dressed, is and always remains a frog".

But not only: as anticipated, the artist does not remain superficial to his interpretations.

The frog-man thus also becomes a representation of his acquaintances, real people, who pose showing the Rolex and walking around well dressed.

In reality, under the guise that he often deceives, these people prove themselves for what they really are: frogs.

From this critical reflection was born the famous work entitled BACIAMI, which today has become one of his most famous and iconographic works.

LOVE AND PSYCHE IN A CONTEMPORARY VERSION

Another of the most recognizable works of Mr. Savethewall is the reinterpretation of the famous sculpture of the master Canova, Cupid and Psyche.

Also in this case, the artist Mr. Savethewall inserts a message at the same time ironic and critical into the work.

In fact, the work depicts the two protagonists of Canova's Cupid and Psyche intent on taking a selfie, an emblematic symbol of today's relationship with smartphones.

THE GOD IPAD: THE CRITICISM OF THE POWER OF TECHNOLOGY

Mr. Savethewall has created works with a very strong and provocative message, at times almost dramatic even if it reflects the reality of today.

The subject of these works is a small blond-haired girl who, bent over an Ipad, prays to him as if she were a divinity.

The dramatic part of this work is the purpose of the little girl's prayer: she asks the iPad to return her father to her, too much with her work to devote time to her.

Mr. Savethewall therefore wants to stir the consciences of all those people who do not notice the time that, spent working, leads them to neglect their affections.

THE BIRDS OF MR. SAVETHWALL AND THE SOCIAL WORLD

Among the most appreciated subjects of the works of Mr. Savethewall there are certainly the little birds.

These two subjects, one real and the other the Twitter symbol, try to communicate with each other but without success.

The significance of these works is the unsolvable lack of communication between the real and the virtual world, unable to meet in a common point.
